  • Accessing Social Sharing

    In order to get to the ‘Social Sharing' overview screen, you can use either of the following routes.

    Route 1: Accessing the 'Social Sharing' section via the 'Sidebar Menu'

    1. Locate the admin area’s ‘Sidebar Menu’ (which always stays fixed to the far left of the admin screen).
    2. In the ‘Sidebar Menu’, click the ‘SOCIAL’ field.
    3. Once the ‘SOCIAL’ sub-menu expands, click the ‘Social Sharing’ menu item.
    4. The next page you will be presented with is the ‘Social Sharing’ section, which gives you the chance to select your social media network, apply its applicable icon and input the link to your profile page.

    1. Locate the admin area’s ‘Sidebar Menu’ (which always stays fixed to the far left of the admin screen).
    2. In the ‘Sidebar Menu’, click the ‘Search Box’ field which appears at the top of this space, placing your cursor in it.
    3. Now, in the ‘Search Box’ start typing Social Sharing.
    4. The next page you will be presented with is the ‘Social Sharing’ section, which gives you the chance to select your social media network, apply its applicable icon and input the link to your profile page.

  • Social Sharing: Creating/Accessing AddThis Account + AddThis Publisher ID

    To achieve ‘Social Sharing’ in our platform, we integrate with a third-party service provider called ‘AddThis’. 

    In ensuring that you get the clickable social icons and an extended list of links to the most prominent ‘Social Media Platforms’ where your website visitors can share your web pages that they are viewing on their ‘Social Media Profiles’.

    Creating an ‘AddThis’  account is free, and you need to do this to obtain an ‘AddThis Publisher ID’ that will get attached to your Sites Done Right powered website.

    If you don’t yet have an ‘AddThis’ account, please follow these steps laid out below in ‘Route 1’ to create one. Should you happen to already have an ‘AddThis’ account, please follow these steps laid out below in ‘Route 2’.

    Route 1: Social Sharing: Creating AddThis Account + AddThis Publisher ID

    1. Visit https://www.addthis.com/register which will take you to the ‘AddThis: Sign Up’ page (web page).
    2. Once you are on the ‘AddThis: Sign Up’ page (web page), either:use the form on it to enter your information in its presented fields (Recommended), or

      sign up with either a ‘Google’, ‘Facebook’ or ‘Twitter’ you already possess.

      Note: We recommend that you complete the form and use your email address and a unique password as the means of accessing your ‘AddThis’ account.

    3. Once you pass all the entry fields for the ‘AddThis’ sign up page (web page), click the ‘Let’s Get Started’ button which is the last field at the bottom of the sign up form.
    4. On a successful sign up, the next page you will be presented with is the ‘AddThis: Select a Tool’ web page.From here, click and select the ‘Share Buttons’.
    5. The next page you will be presented with is the ‘Select a Tool Type’ where you will click the ‘X’ button in its top-right corner.
    6. Now, from the ‘AddThis’ admin bar at the top of the page, go to its right side and click the ‘Profile Settings’ menu item.
    7. Once the ‘Profile Settings’ page loads, it will appear with the title ‘Profile Settings for My Site’ with the ‘General’ field being selected by default.What you want to do is copy or note down the ‘ID’ which appears on this screen, in the ‘General’ subfield section.
    8. Now with your ‘ID’ in hand, you’ll return to the ‘Social Sharing’ section of your Sites Done Right powered website to enter both it (the ‘ID’) and its accompanying fields.We will be walking through how to do this, and get your ‘Social Sharing’ widget to appear on your web pages in the next section of this guide entitled ‘Social Sharing: Adding AddThis Publisher ID’.

    1. Visit https://www.addthis.com/login which will take you to the ‘AddThis: Sign In’  page (web page).
    2. Once you are on the ‘AddThis: Sign In’ page (web page), either:use the sign in form on it to enter your email address and password in its presented fields (Recommended), or

      sign in with either a ‘Google’, ‘Facebook’ or ‘Twitter’ you already possess.

      Note: Our preferred method of signing in to your ‘AddThis’ account is via email address and password.

      Should you not be doing this at present and want to switch over, follow the steps in ‘Route 1: Social Sharing: Creating AddThis Account + AddThis Publisher ID’ (in the section above).

    3. Once you have entered your ‘Email Address’ and ‘Password’in the provided ‘Textbox’ fields, click the ‘Sign In’ button which is the last field at the bottom of the sign in form.
    4. On a successful sign in, the next page you will be presented with is the ‘AddThis: Dashboard’.
    5. From the AddThis: Dashboard’, go to the right side of its admin bar at the top of this web page and click the ‘Profile Settings’ menu item.
    6. Once the ‘Profile Settings’ page loads, it will appear with the title ‘Profile Settings for My Site’ with the ‘General’ field being selected by default.What you want to do is copy or note down the ‘ID’ which appears on this screen, in the ‘General’ subfield section.
    7. Now with your ‘ID’ in hand, you’ll return to the ‘Social Sharing’ section of your Sites Done Right powered website to enter both it (the ‘ID’) and its accompanying fields.We will be walking through how to do this, and get your ‘Social Sharing’ widget to appear on your web pages in the next section of this guide entitled ‘Social Sharing: Adding AddThis Publisher ID’.

  • Social Sharing: Adding AddThis Publisher ID + Other Supporting Information

    Once you have established what your ‘AddThis ID’ is, either through creating or accessing an ‘AddThis’ account as outlined in:

    • ‘Route 1: Social Sharing: Creating AddThis Account + AddThis Publisher ID’ (as shown above), or
    • ‘Route 2: Social Sharing: Accessing AddThis Account + AddThis Publisher ID’ (as shown above),

    it is time to go on and enter both it (i.e. your ‘AddThis ID’) and its supporting information to ensure your ‘Social Sharing’ widget appears throughout your web pages (where applicable).

    We have outlined 2 routes to achieving this and ensuring your ‘Social Sharing’ widget is permanently added to your website (up until you choose to alter or remove it, which we wouldn’t recommend).

    Route 1: Social Sharing: Adding AddThis Publisher ID + Other Supporting Information

    1. Locate the admin area’s ‘Sidebar Menu’ (which always stays fixed to the far left of the admin screen).
    2. In the ‘Sidebar Menu’, click the ‘SOCIAL’ field.
    3. Once the ‘SOCIAL’ sub-menu expands, click the ‘Social Sharing’ menu item.
    4. Now, in the ‘Social Sharing’ section of your website’s admin area, go to its subsection entitled ‘SOCIAL SHARING’.
    5. Once here, first, go to the ‘AddThis ID’ field which is a ‘Text Box’ where you will enter your ‘AddThis ID’.
    6. Next, go to the ‘Enable AddThis Share Widget?’ which is an ‘On/Off Switch’ which you need to activate by setting it to ‘YES’.
    7. Now, it’s time to add the ‘Social Media Platforms’ whose icons you would like to appear on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’ by default.

      To do this, go to the ‘Items’ area of the ‘SOCIAL SHARING’ subsection and click the ‘ADD SOCIAL SHARE ITEM’.

    8. Next, a row with a field entitled ‘Platform’ which is a ‘Dropdown Select Menu’ will appear.

      This is where you can select the ‘Social Media Platform’ whose brand icon you would like to appear on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’.

      Simply, click on the ‘Dropdown Select Menu’ and choose the ‘Social Media Platform’ you want to add.
      Note:  We advise not having too many ‘Social Media Platforms’ and their brand icons appearing on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’. Aim to have either those social media platforms best suited to the content you share and the audience you’re chasing, or those which are popular with a large user base.

      Any ‘Social Media Platforms’ not featured on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’ can still be accessed by viewers wanting to share your web page(s) via your widgets share button which opens up a complementary field with all sharable networks viewers can use.

    9. Optional: If you want to add another ‘Social Media Platform’ to your ‘Social Sharing Widget’, you will either have to:

      Click the ‘ADD SOCIAL SHARE ITEM’ button to the bottom right of the ‘SOCIAL SHARING’ area, or

      Hover over the row (item) of the ‘Social Media Platform’ you have already created, going over to its far-right and clicking the ‘+’ icon

      When doing either of these actions, a new item (row) will appear, where you can repeat the instructions in step 8 (above) to add the brand icons of additional social media platforms.

    10. Once you have completed adding all your  ‘Social Media Platforms’ (via the ‘Dropdown Select Menus’ associated with the ‘Platform’ field) and you have the ‘AddThis Publisher ID’ populated and ‘Enable AddThis Share Widget’ enabled (i.e. set to ‘YES’), you need to publish your additions so that they get saved to your website. To do this, you can either:

      Go to the ‘PUBLISH’ area of the ‘Social Sharing’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button, or

      Go to the ‘Publish Bar’ towards the top of the ‘Social Sharing’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button which appears on it.

    11. Once you’ve clicked the ‘UPDATE’ button, your  ‘Social Sharing Widget’ will appear on your web pages (where this option is activated).

    2. In the ‘Sidebar Menu’, click the ‘Search Box’ field which appears at the top of this space, placing your cursor in it.
    3. Now, in the ‘Search Box’ start typing Social Sharing.
    4. From the predictive search results that appear click ‘Social Sharing’.
    5. Now, in the ‘Social Sharing’ section of your website’s admin area, go to its subsection entitled ‘SOCIAL SHARING’.
    6. Once here, first, go to the ‘AddThis ID’ field which is a ‘Text Box’ where you will enter your ‘AddThis ID’.
    7. Next, go to the ‘Enable AddThis Share Widget?’ which is an ‘On/Off Switch’ which you need to activate by setting it to ‘YES’.
    8. Now, it’s time to add the ‘Social Media Platforms’ whose icons you would like to appear on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’ by default.

    12. Once you’ve clicked the ‘UPDATE’ button, your  ‘Social Sharing Widget’ will appear on your web pages (where this option is activated).

  • Social Sharing: Removing Social Media Platforms from Social Sharing Widget

    You may find yourself having to remove one or more of the ‘Social Media Platforms’ whose brand icons appear on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’.

    If you want to accomplish this, simply follow the steps we’ve laid out below.

    1. Go to the subsection of the ‘Social Sharing’ area entitled ‘SOCIAL SHARING’.
    2. When at ‘SOCIAL SHARING’, you will see your ‘Social Media Platforms’ listed under the ‘Items’ subheading.
    3. From here, navigate your way to the row (item) with the ‘Social Media Platform’ you want to remove, hover over it, go over to its far-right and click the ‘-’ icon.
    4. Optional: If you want to remove another one of your social media profiles, you will have to go to the row (item) with the account and repeat step 3 (above).
    5. Once you have completed removing all the ‘Social Media Platforms’ you don’t want to appear on your ‘Social Sharing Widget’ you will need to ensure these changes are saved. To do this, you can either:

      Go to the ‘PUBLISH’ area of the ‘Social Accounts’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button, or

      Go to the ‘Publish Bar’ towards the top of the ‘Social Accounts’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button which appears on it.

  • Social Sharing: Reordering Social Media Platform Icons on Social Sharing Widge

    With your ‘Social Sharing Widget’, the brand icons for the ‘Social Media Platforms’ you have decided to include on it will appear in the order they are listed in the ‘Social Sharing’ section of your website. Reordering their appearance takes a simple drag and drop movement, either up or down, to change the numbering (order) associated with the social media platform (items) related to this component.

    Go through these steps to get your ‘Social Sharing Widget’ organised as you want.

    1. Go to the subsection of the ‘Social Sharing’ area entitled ‘SOCIAL SHARING’.
    2. When at ‘SOCIAL SOCIAL SHARING’, you will see your ‘Social Media Platforms’ listed under the ‘Items’ subheading.
    3. From here, navigate your way to the row (item) with the ‘Social Media Platform’ you want to reorder, and hover over the number which appears to the far left of the row (item) where a ‘Move Pointer’ will appear.
    4. Click down and hold on the ‘Move Pointer’ dragging the row (item) of your chosen ‘Social Media Platform’ the move it (up or down) either above or below the row (item) you want it to appear before or after.Once you have it where you want, release the ‘Move Pointer’ to snap your row (item) to its new position.
    5.  The confirmation you have moved the link to your chosen ‘Social Media Platform’ (i.e. the row/item) will be marked by the change in its numbering to the far left of the row (item) itself (e.g. 1 to 3, or 2 to 1 etc.)
    6. Once you have completed reordering all your  ‘Social Media Platforms’ you will need to ensure these changes are saved. To do this, you can either:

      Go to the ‘PUBLISH’ area of the ‘Social Sharing’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button, orGo to the ‘Publish Bar’ towards the top of the ‘Social Sharing’ section and click the ‘UPDATE’ button which appears on it.
